What is the capacity (milliamps) of your external battery? At 1000mA, the battery should be empty after 200 hours at the latest. I'm using a "USB powerbank" rated at 5'000mAh, with a "booster" to get 12V. This is probably not a very efficient setup. I don't have the exact figure...
